Editorial Policy

StitchHow's calculators and reference content are built and maintained independently of the site's advertising. Advertisers have no input into what we publish, what a calculator returns, or which figures we cite.

How we source numbers

We draw on two kinds of figures. Published industry standards — the Craft Yarn Council's yarn-weight gauge ranges, standard needle and hook equivalence charts — are cited directly as what they are, not restated as our own work. Where no reliable public standard exists (the yarn-quantity model's stitch-pattern constants, specifically), we calibrate our own and publish the full derivation, including the reference data checked against it, on the methodology page, so it can be verified rather than taken on faith.

What we won't do

We won't present our own calibrated estimate as if it were a verified physical constant, and we won't fabricate a precise figure where we can't confirm one from at least two independent sources — if we can't confirm something, we say so or leave it out, rather than guess and present the guess as fact.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we fix it and note the update date at the top of the affected page. Report an error via the contact page.
